Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
How many of you have felt anxious? All of us have, some of us feel it every moment of every day. But, know that there IS an escape from the anxiousness that grips your soul! And very clear steps to take to rid yourself of anxiety. First, you must find the cause of your anxiety. Is it a problem, a financial difficulty, a relationship, a job, an unfulfilled dream, or is it something else? Stop and think through your feelings, they will lead you to the source of worry. Talk to God about your feelings, He is listening and wants you to discover freedom from worry. Then, the next step is critical. You MUST give it to God. How? It is actually EASY, but one of the most difficult things for us as humans to do. You ask -- How can it be easy AND difficult? Trust me it is. It is difficult for us to give up control of our lives. It is difficult for us to say, "Here, God, I can't do it, but you can." But, once we are able to do that, it IS easy. Because his peace fills us and we finally understand that all of our worrying will NOT change the will of our Lord.
BUT HOW DO I GIVE IT TO GOD?
The old saying goes - practice makes perfect, and it does. Try these techniques --
1) Write down your worries. Use a journal to "discuss" with the Lord how you are feeling and why. Write about your worries as if you were writing to God (you are). At the end of each journaling session write down that you give these worries to God for Him to handle. Then, when you close the journal make it symbolic of you putting aside your worry because you have given them to Him.
2) Pray to the Lord. Whenever you feel the worries bearing down on you, stop and pray to the Lord asking Him to give you His peace and believe that He will.
We can't get rid of worries popping up in our lives, but the more we practice giving them to God the better able to hand them over we will be! His will is perfect and so is His timing!
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God." Phillipians 4:6
